What to Expect at FCC on a Sunday Morning
Welcome to First Christian Church, downtown Bloomington!
All are welcome at First Christian Church. Here are some things that might help you as you consider visiting for the first time (and we hope you do!):
Choose a Worship Service (see map for locations)
At 9:00 a.m. we worship in the Sanctuary which has wooden pews, beautiful stained glass, and both a main level and balcony. This service is fairly traditional, with hymns, organ and piano music, Chancel Choir, sermon, and communion. At 10:15 a.m. we worship in the Fellowship Hall. This service is a progressive worship experience with current music, led by the One and All band, sermon, and communion. It is a relaxed service that focuses on unity and equality. See One and All for more information about the 10:15 service. What to wear? You'll find people in everything from suits and ties to t-shirts and shorts. Come as you are.
Get Directions to the Church
First Christian is located at 401 West Jefferson St., just a block away from Madison St. and right across from the fire station. Find a map here that you can print if you wish.
Find a Parking Place and Come on in!
We have Visitor spots in our parking lot to the north of the church.
Please use one of these spots reserved for you and come in the
church through the north entrance. There are stairs and an elevator available. When you get to the main level, turn left and you will find our Centrum with signs directing you to the Sanctuary for the 9:00 a.m. service or to Fellowship Hall for the 10:15 a.m. One and All service.
Your children are welcome at both services. At the 9 am service, there is a special Time for Children when children are invited to come to the front of the sanctuary and listen to a short, age-appropriate introduction to the day’s worship theme. Following that, children ages 4-2nd grade are invited to Worship and Wonder, a worship program designed especially for children (more about Worship and Wonder). Or, if you prefer, he/she can stay in the sanctuary with you. Children learn so much from worshiping next to people who love them. We enjoy children and understand sometimes they make noise. Rest assured…we have been there!
At the 10:15 am service, there is a table at the back of the worship space with activities for children. We also have special prayer stations for children. Children in One and All often dance at the back of the room while the band plays.
During both services, childcare is also available in the nursery for children who have not started kindergarten yet. All of our nursery staff have been thoroughly background checked and are kind, loving adults. The nursery is on the lower level across from the elevator.
Welcome to the Info Desk
In the Centrum are volunteers to help with your questions about where to take your children for Sunday School or childcare, how to find the rest rooms, or anything you might want to know about FCC. At the Information Center, there are also activity bags available for children. Next to the Info Desk is the Snack Bar. On Sundays, there are donuts, coffee, and ice water available. They are for YOU!
Welcome to the Sanctuary or Fellowship Hall
As you arrive you will pick up a bulletin filled with information about the service, programs and activities of the church, and other announcements that we hope are helpful for visitors and members. Sit wherever you wish. Note: if you have young children, you may be tempted to sit in the back. You can do that if you wish. However, you may find that your child will be more interested in worship if he/she is seated to close to the front where the view is better!
